silly mug sublimation workshop with Soft Surprise
Description
Date: Saturday, November 15
Time: 1 PM
Location: PS1200 Loft, meet inside Café Momento first
Ticket price: $34.99 (12 seats only!)
Do you like making stuff? Good. Do you like drinking coffee (or something café-adjacent) while you do it? Even better.
Join Point of View's featured artist Joanna of Soft Surprise as she leads a delightfully low-stakes, high-silliness mug-sublimation workshop: the kind of class where learning a new skill meets “why not let the absurdity fly?”
You’ll get:
- Two blank mugs to decorate however you please (yes — go wild)
- All the sublimation supplies you’ll need (we’ve got you)
- One caffeinated pick-me-up from our café (drink included!)
- Light bites + drinks to fuel your creative mayhem
- BONUS: a special one-day only 20% in-store discount to both The Gifted Group Shops (Gifted, Café Momento, and Point of View) use during the workshop
This is not about perfection. It’s about process. It’s about exploring the “what-if I totally go off the rails?” moment and then holding THAT to a standard of real craft (because if Joanna is making absurd things just because she can, you can too).
Come hang out, make a mug (or two), meet the artist, learn something new, and take home a wobbly masterpiece (or two). See you there!
An email with more details of the class will be sent the day before the workshop
About The Artist
Joanna Lin is a multidisciplinary maker from Colorado. In her late teens, she picked up visual arts after flunking calculus and being fired by her violin teacher. She received a BFA in Film/Animation/Video from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2015. Since then she has accumulated a range of “industry experience” working as a tampon designer, motion graphics animator, and an artist assistant. From 2020 to 2024, she was a designer at the art collective MSCHF Product Studios and from 2024-2025 she worked as a designer for Poo~Pourri. Her art practice is symbiotic with her “industry experience” and her commercially maintained digital skillset. In 2019 Soft Surprise LLC was established as a pseudo business art practice to contain Joanna's thoughts and explorations in object making.
